About Helping Around Town Nonprofit Mission & Story

Rooted in Faith and Community

About the Founder

Sheila Slade, the Founder of H.A.T., witnessed firsthand how many people in our community were falling through the cracks — homeless neighbors in need of a hot meal, single mothers struggling to provide essentials, and elderly residents quietly living without the support they deserved. Instead of looking away, Sheila felt called to step in.

What began as a small act of service quickly became a growing ministry rooted in faith, compassion, and action. H.A.T. exists to meet people where they are — offering food, clothing, diapers, hygiene items, hot meals, and support to those who need it most. Every bag packed, every plate served, and every prayer offered is a reminder that no one is forgotten and no one is alone.

Through the support of volunteers, donors, and community partners, H.A.T. continues to expand its reach — not just meeting physical needs, but restoring dignity, hope, and love to every person served.
